BayBears to honor St. Paul's baseball team
May 23, 2003 - Southern League (SL1)
Mobile BayBears News Release
Mobile, Ala. â The Mobile BayBears will be honoring the St. Paul's High School baseball team prior to the BayBears game against the Birmingham Barons at Hank Aaron Stadium on Saturday night, May 24th.
"It will be nice to come back to where it all started for us this season," said St. Paul's head coach Andy Robbins. "Both times we've won the Classic we've gone on to win State. I believe Daphne High School has done the same thing. I don't think that it's a coincidence. It is a great tournament and I know all of the players involved will never forget playing at The Hank."
The Saints won this year's Alabama state 5A baseball title, their first at 5A, defeating Cullman on May 15th. They now have six titles overall, including three of the previous five. St. Paul's also began their season by winning the Hank Aaron High School Baseball Classic at Hank Aaron Stadium, defeating the 6A state runner-up Gulf Shores in the championship game.
"To come back after you have reached your goal will, again, be something that these players will keep in their memories forever," Robbins said.
"We have seen Andy Robbins bring his great Saints teams to the Hank Aaron High School Classic through the years," BayBears President and General Manager Bill Shanahan said. "It speaks volumes of Andy and his team, to win the Hank Aaron Classic and then go on to win State."
