
Smokies Topple Barons 8-3

Birmingham, AL - TheBirmingham Barons dropped game two of their five game series against the Tennessee Smokies by a score of 8-3 in front of 4,138 fans at Regions Field.
The Smokies struck first, getting a run in the first inning on a two-out RBI single by Kris Bryant to take a 1-0 lead against Barons starter Chris Beck (2-2, 5.91).
The Barons briefly took the lead back in the 4th, getting a two-out RBI single by Miguel Gonzalez to take a 2-1 lead.
However, a five-run fifth by the Smokies put the game out of reach. The inning was highlighted by RBI singles from Stephen Bruno, Rubi Silva and Kris Bryant against Beck, who also was hit twice by baseballs back up the box in the inning. Beck would exit after just 4.1 IP after allowing six runs on eight hits.
Smokies starter C.J. Edwards (1-0, 2.61) held the Barons in check for most of the night, allowing just two runs on three hits while striking out four over 6.0 IP.
Gordon Beckham hit his first home run since joining the Barons on a rehab assignment on April 3rd but also made three errors in the field.
With the loss, the Barons fell to 9-8 while the Smokies improved to 8-9. The Barons will look to rebound tomorrow afternoon as RHP Myles Jaye (0-1, 3.94) takes the hill against RHP Dae-Eun Rhee (0-1, 3.55). First pitch is scheduled for a 11:30 AM CDT.
