
Smokies Shutout G-Braves, Improve to 4-1 in second half

Greenville, SC- Tennessee opened a stretch of seven straight games against Greenville by blanking the Braves 5-0. Julio Villalon earned his second win in two starts as Tennessee (4-1) opened a four game series at Greenville (1-4) Sunday afternoon at Municipal Stadium. Following this series the teams will meet Friday through Sunday at Smokies Park.
Villalon (2-0) scattered three hits over eight innings and retired 10 straight between the 1st and 4th innings to earn the win. Josh Axelson tossed a scoreless ninth to finish for Tennessee.
Tennessee scored twice in the first inning against Greenville starter Chuck Smith (1-1). Skip Schumaker drew a lead off walk and scored a batter later on a Kevan Burns double. Bucky Jacobsen drove Burns home with a single.
The Smokies scored again in the sixth when John Nelson singled and scored on Papo Bolivar's single.
Schumaker doubled to open the eighth against reliever Kazuhiro Takeoka and scored when John Nelson's ground ball was played into an error by second baseman Richard Lewis. Corey Erickson capped the scoring with a solo home run off Ray Aguilar to lead off the ninth.
The series continues Monday night at 7:15 in Greenville as Rhett Parrott (4-7, 4.08) goes for the Smokies against Chris Waters (2-1, 3.86).
