
Smokies Punch Ticket into Playoffs

PEARL, MS - The Tennessee Smokies came from behind in the series finale to punch their ticket into the 2023 Southern League playoffs. The Smokies will play the Chattanooga Lookouts in the Southern League Divisional Series.
Tennessee trailed 4-0 with only two hits going into the eighth inning. The Smokies got on the board with an Andy Weber single, scoring Bradlee Beesley and making it 4-1. The Smokies tacked on two more in the frame on the 29th double of the season by BJ Murray to cut the deficit down to one run.
Trailing 4-3 in the top of the ninth, the Smokies got their first two runners aboard on a walk and a base hit. Tennessee outfielder Bradlee Beesley crushed a go-ahead double to left field, taking their first lead of the game 5-4. Later in the inning, lead-off hitter Matt Shaw hit a double to score Beesley and add the insurance run.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, Smokies reliever Eduarniel Nunez completed a 1-2-3 inning to win the game and send the Smokies to the postseason. Nunez got the win and is now 2-0 on the season. Tennessee returns home on Tuesday to take on the Rocket City Trash Pandas in a six game series for the final regular season series of the year.
