MOBILE, Ala. - The Tennessee Smokies (18-17) earned a sweep of the Mobile BayBears (15-20) with a 5-4 win at Hank Aaron Stadium on Friday night.

This is Tennessee's second five-game sweep of the season, after doing the same to the Chattanooga Lookouts at Smokies Park from Jun. 5 to the 9. Tyler Colvin led the Smokies at the plate going 5-5 with five singles with an RBI.

The Smokies started hot, as Jim Adduci gave Tennessee a 1-0 lead in the first on his RBI double. Mobile tied the game in the bottom of the second, as Ricardo Sosa scored on a Yunesky Sanchez groundout.

The BayBears rallied off of Smokies Starter Chris Carpenter in the third to put two runs across to go ahead 3-1.

A Tony Thomas sacrifice fly pulled the Smokies a run closer in the fourth as Tyler Colvin scored to make it 3-2. Tennessee took the lead an inning later, as Jim Adduci hit a solo home run and Colvin hit an RBI single to put Tennessee up 4-3 in the fifth.

However the BayBears responded in the bottom of the frame, as a Smokies throwing error allowed Pete Clifford to score to tie the game.

The see-saw battle continued in the top of the sixth, where an error by pitcher Ramon Sanchez allowed Thomas to score to give the lead back to Tennessee, 5-4.

Marcos Mateo (3-6) picked up the win in relief, only allowing one run on one hit, and Jayson Ruhlman retired the BayBears in the ninth to earn his third save of the season.

Tennessee returns home to Smokies Park on Aug. 1 for five games against the Carolina Mudcats, the AA-affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds. Tickets can be purchased by calling 286-2300 or by visiting www.smokiesbaseball.com.
