Suns Back on Track with Friday Win over Barons

Jacksonville, Fla. - Graham Taylor allowed one runs and two hits over six innings while the offense pounded out ten h its in support leading the first place Jacksonville Suns (59-46, 24-11) to a 7-1 victory over the Birmingham Barons (68-36, 20-15) in front of 5,368 Friday night at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

Taylor (5-6) allowed a Dayan Viciedo homerun and one other hit over six innings while recording six strikeouts without a walk for the victory. Barons starter Matt Long (2-3) fell in the loss, allowing two runs and four hits over four innings of work.

The Birmingham Barons opened the scoring in the second inning as Dayan Viciedo hit a leadoff homerun into the right field seats for a 1-0 score. Jacksonville answered in the bottom of the second inning when Logan Morrison scored on a Scott Cousins single for a 1-1 game.

Jacksonville took the lead for good in the fourth inning as Chris Hatcher knocked in the go-ahead run with a two-out single for a 2-1 score. The Suns added two more two-out runs in the fifth inning on base hits from Scott Cousins and Kevin Randel for a 4-1 lead.

The Suns put the game away in the eighth inning, adding three runs for a 7-1 lead. Bryan Petersen doubled home Kevin Randel, Chris Hatcher scored on a wild pitch and Petersen scored on an error to finish the scoring.

Suns RH Nic Ungs will face Huntsville Stars RH Mike Jones in game one of the series Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. Saturday is the Buffett-style jersey auction and post-game concert by Rip Tide. The Suns will wear the special jerseys that will be auctioned off to benefit the Children's Home Society of Florida.
