JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Tennessee Smokies beat the Suns, 5-1, in front of 7,845 fans Saturday at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

The Smokies (66-58 overall, 31-23 second half) scored its runs in the fourth and fifth innings off Suns starter Edwin Jackson. Jackson (7-7) gave up a two-run home run to league leader Bucky Jacobsen in the fourth. It was Jacobsen's 27th of the season. Jackson gave up a two-run double to John Nelson in the fifth and then loaded the bases before retiring a batter.

Elvin Nina relieved Jackson and after allowing a sacrifice fly to John Nelson, he induced an inning-ending double play to cap the Smokies' lead at 5-0. Nina pitched three scoreless innings of relief. Lino Urdaneta completed the final two innings without allowing a run.

The Suns got its run on Franklin Gutierrez's home run in the fifth inning off Smokies starter Chris Narveson. Gutierrez hit 20 home runs with Vero Beach this season. It was his first with Jacksonville (58-66, 27-28).

Narveson (4-1) earned the victory, pitching into the seventh inning while allowing six hits, two walks and striking out five. Josh Kinney and Mike Lyons combined to pitch three scoreless innings of relief. Kinney struck out the side in the seventh. Lyons – who has a league-leading 30 saves – repeated the feat in the ninth.

Reggie Abercrombie and Edwin Bellorin each had two hits to pace the Suns who fell 4½ games behind the Smokies with 16 games remaining.

Right-hander Will McCrotty (2-5, 3.93 ERA) is scheduled to face Smokies righty Julio Villalon (4-5, 3.57) at 6:05 p.m. Sunday at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
