Orlando Rays News Release
ORLANDO -Amado German and Jonny Gomes continued their hot hitting, accounting for six RBI as the Orlando Rays dropped the West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx 10-3 in front of 7,011 at Cracker Jack Stadium Saturday.
Gomes got the Orlando offense rolling in the 1st, launching a two-run homer to right off West Tenn. starter Jae-kuk Ryu (L, 1-4) to give Orlando an early 2-0 lead. The blast was Gomes' 16th of the season and the two RBI gave him 51 on the year, most on the O-Rays. German posted his second straight 3-5 effort, finishing the night with four RBI and one run.
Orlando's team offense stayed red-hot Saturday, as the Rays collected 13 hits on the night. Joey Gathright went 3-5 with three runs scored, while B.J. Upton contributed two hits, two RBI and one run scored.
Orlando starter Chris Flinn (W, 1-1) picked up his first Class AA win, going five innings and allowing two runs - one earned - on three hits in his second straight spot start out of the bullpen. Josh Parker (SV, 7) entered the game in the top of the eighth with the bases full of Diamond Jaxx, one out and the Rays clinging to a 6-3 lead. Parker got the first batter he faced to ground into a double play to end the threat, and the Rays would go on to score four insurance runs in their half of the eighth, putting the game out of reach.
With the win, Orlando improved to 24-28 on the second half and 56-65 overall. The loss dropped West Tennessee to 25-30 and 59-66 overall. Orlando has now won four of their last five games and improved to 31-27 at Cracker Jack Stadium.
The teams continue the series tomorrow at 1:35 as the Rays send right-hander Jim Magrane (9-6, 3.49) to the mound in search of his team-leading 10th win of the season. West Tennessee will counter with LHP Felix Sanchez (1-2, 3.29).
