St. Lucie Mets News Release

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (May 30, 2015) - Dominic Smith played the hero for the St. Lucie Mets in their 4-2 win over the Fort Myers Miracle on Saturday night at Tradition Field.

Smith, the 11th overall pick in the 2013 MLB draft, crushed a two-run walk-off homer in the 11th inning to lift the Mets to the victory. The home run was the first for Smith in the Florida State League. It was an opposite field shot off Dallas Gallant with no outs.

The long ball extended Smith's hitting streak to 12 games. He was 0 for 4 entering the at-bat. Smith now has an extra base hit in 11 of the last 14 games.

Kelly Secrest pitched a scoreless 10th and 11th to improve his record to 4-1.

In his St. Lucie debut, Mets starter John Gant was impressive. He allowed just three hits and one run in six innings while striking out eight. He walked three batters. The one run he gave up was a leadoff homer in the second to Bryan Haar.

The Mets tied the game in their half of the second on Matt Oberste's home run. It was his third of the year.

Later in the second inning, Amed Rosario gave the Mets the lead by hitting a single, stealing second and advancing the third on a bad throw from catcher Michael Quesada. Miracle starter Chih-Wei Hu then balked and Rosario was awarded home to put the Mets up 2-1.

The Miracle managed to tie the game in the eighth. Ryan Walker was walked by Josh Smoker, then he advanced to second on a ground out. Smoker followed with a wild pitch that moved Walker to third. With two outs and the count 0-2, Niko Goodrum singled to right field to plate Walker and even the game 2-2.

In the 11th, Oberste led off with a double. Instead of bunting pinch runner Tucker Tharp to third base, Smith swung away and ended the game.

Saturday's game between the Mets and Miracle was their third in a row and fourth out of their last five that went to extra innings. All four have gone at least 11, with the game on April 24 lasting until the 17th inning. The Mets are 3-1 in those four games.

The Mets (24-25) and Miracle (24-25) continue their three-game series on Sunday at 1 p.m. Gates open at 11:30 a.m. for Sunday Brunch.
