Angelo Mora and Willians Astudillo combined for four of the Threshers six hits on Saturday, as Clearwater suffered a 4-2 loss in the series opener at Daytona.

The Threshers (24-25) fell to six games back of first-place Daytona (30-19) in the Florida State League North.

Daytona got on the board in the first inning, when Sebastian Elizalde lined a two-out RBI single off Colin Kleven to make it 1-0. The Tortugas doubled their lead two innings later on a Chad Wallach sacrifice fly.

Clearwater rallied to pull even in the fifth.

Astudillo and Aaron Brown each singled to open the frame, and Mora followed by grounding a single to left. Astudillo would score after the ball was misplayed by left fielder Phillip Ervin.

After back-to-back strikeouts, Amir Garrett's pickoff attempt was mishandled by first baseman Robert Ramirez for an error, permitting Brown to cross the plate with the tying run.

With two outs in the bottom half, Wallach left the yard with his third home run of the year, putting Daytona back in front, 3-2.

Kleven (3-2) would leave the game after five innings, having permitted three runs - two earned - on six hits and three walks, striking out four in the loss.

Miguel Nunez worked the final three innings in relief, allowing a run on a Ramirez sacrifice fly in the eighth inning.

The Threshers will square off against the Tortugas for game two of the series on Sunday, with first pitch at 5:35 p.m. Yacksel Rios (1-1) will get the nod for Clearwater against Daytona's Nick Routt (0-1).
