St. Paul, MN - The Sioux Falls Canaries (11-9) picked up their second win in a row with an 8-6 victory over the St. Paul Saints (9-12) on Friday night.

The Canaries took the first lead of the game in the third inning. Ralph Santana doubled to left-centerfield to score Anthony Monegan from first base for a 1-0 Canaries lead.

St. Paul got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third when Rob Fischer hit his fifth homer of the season to even the score, 1-1.

The Birds went right back in front in the fourth inning. Chris Hall blasted his third home run of the season, a two run shot, to put the Canaries ahead, 3-1.

The Saints tied the game in the bottom of the fourth. With runners on first and second Brian Buchanan hit a groundball to third baseman Chris Hall. Hall tagged the bag at third, but he threw the ball away at first base in trying for a double play. The error allowed the runners to move to second and third. The error would prove costly when Pat Scalabrini hit a ground rule double to score both runners and tie the game, 3-3.

In the sixth inning Bubba Smith hit his second homer in as many days. The two-run bomb from Smith put the Canaries ahead 5-3.

The Saints erased the lead immediately. Pat Scalabrini hit his fifth home run of the season to tie the game 5-5.

The Canaries went ahead in the next inning for their fourth lead of the game. Abner Arroyo hit a bases loaded single to score Angelo Fermin and Anthony Monegan for a 7-5 Canaries lead.

St. Paul added a run in the eighth. Rob Fischer got on base with a walk, and advanced to third base after a passed ball and a wild pitch. Jose Torres doubled to score Fischer and cut the Canaries lead to 7-6.

The Birds got an insurance run in the ninth. Abner Arroyo and Bubba Smith hit back-to-back singles to put runners on the corners for Dennis Anderson. Anderson grounded out to the right side allowing Arroyo to score for the 8-6 lead.

Matt Montgomery came in to hold the lead in the ninth for his fifth save of the year. Southpaw Jason Cierlik (3-4) got the win for the Canaries and Matt Pike (2-4) was saddled with the loss.

Bird Seeds: Chad Hermansen doubled in the first inning to extend his current hitting streak to seven games. ... The Canaries outhit the Saints 15 to 8 in the game. ... Matt Koziara will make his first appearance on the road as the starting pitcher in Saturday's game against the Saints.
