Brockton Rox News Release

After a half hour delay, the Rox were anxious to play ball. Against the Conference-leading Seacoast Mavericks, they got out to a quick start and never looked back.

Brockton looked liked the better team the majority of the game. Losers of 5 straight, the Rox desperately needed to get back on the winning side of things.

In the 1st inning, the Rox took command. Three consecutive batters in the inning had RBI's. Alex Berry, Ben Porter, and Dillon Cooper each drove in a run to take a 3-0 lead.

Rox pitcher Justin Lasko was brilliant on the mound. In 5 innings, Lasko allowed 8 hits and surrendered just one run.

After falling to a 6-2 deficit, the Mavs made an 8th inning rally. 8 batters appeared in the inning while 3 runs scored. Steven Octave had an RBI single, and Alvin Swoope had a 2-RBI double to close the gap to just one run.

In the top of the 9th, Brockton pulled away to make it difficult for the Mavs to mount another comeback. With 2 outs, Smartt drove in Dillon Cooper and Anthony George with a 2-RBI single where the Rox took an 8-5 lead into the 9th.

The score would stay the same as Bryce Verplank finished off the Mavericks to get back in the win column.

The Rox (13-19) play tomorrow night at Pittsfield where they take on the Suns (12-18). The Rox return to Campanelli Stadium next Thursday after the All-Star break where they take on the Seacoast Mavericks. It's an early one, first pitch is at 10:05 AM. Come enjoy your Brockton Rox in action!
