Martha's Vineyard Sharks News Release
Although what looked to be a comfortable win for the Martha's Vineyard Sharks ended up finishing much closer than expected, the Sharks were able to hold on to top the Wachusett Dirt Dogs 9-8 on Wednesday night at Vineyard Baseball Park.
The Dirt Dogs jumped out to an early 3-0 lead thanks to two Sharks errors and a home run in the top of the first. However, that lead was short lived as the Sharks got one back in their half of the first and tied the game in the bottom of the second. Three more Martha's Vineyard runs in both the fourth and fifth innings created breathing room between the two teams. Wachusetts did not back down though, scoring two runs in the seventh to set up a dramatic ninth inning.
After retiring two of the first three batters in the inning, the Sharks were still in a comfortable position. Two consecutive errors and two wild pitches brought three Dirt Dogs home. A Sharks' pitching change brought in Cameron Sepede (Salt Lake CC) who got the final out to nail down the save and win.
Ricky Surum (University of Mount Olive) went 4-5 with three runs scored in the lead-off spot. Alex Lewis (Longwood U) and Laurence Hill (URI) also had three hits for the Sharks. Andrew Misiaszek (Northeastern) earned the win for the Sharks, pitching five innings and allowing just three unearned runs on two hits and one walk.
The Sharks will next play host to the Bristol Blues in a 7:00 pm game on Thursday, July 7th
