Worcester Bravehearts News Release
WORCESTER, Mass. - Less than one week away from the Futures League All-Star Experience at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field, the Worcester Bravehearts (22-8) came home to host the Torrington Titans (12-18) riding a four game winning streak. Thanks to stellar starting pitching from Frankie Moscatiello (St. Thomas Aquinas/Rocky Point, N.Y.), the Bravehearts held off the Torrington Titans late to secure a 2-1 victory over their division rivals. Worcester extends their winning streak to five games with the victory.
Moscatiello was lights out right off the bat, keeping the Titans' bats quiet throughout his outing. He lasted six full scoreless innings, only giving up three hits and one walk while striking out seven batters. He picked up his second win of the summer and lowered his ERA to 1.08 this summer.
The Bravehearts supported Moscatiello with just the two runs on the night, but that's all they would need. Mike Coggeshall (Assumption/Shrewsbury, MA) kicked things off in the fourth inning with a RBI double, giving the Bravehearts a 1-0 lead. They followed up with a Joe Caico (New Haven/Hopedale, MA) RBI single in the sixth extending the lead to 2-0.
Torrington's starter Nick Mondak (St. John's/Watertown, CT) was also solid for the visitors on the bump. He was able to throw 5 2/3 innings for the Titans, giving up two runs on five hits. He walked just one batter and also struck out seven batters. Mondak took the loss, his first of the summer.
The Titans grabbed a run in the top of the ninth on a snap throw to first from Nick Rybarczyk (Marist/Chicago, IL) that got away from Coggeshall, narrowing the lead to just 2-1. However, Trey Schramm (Xavier/Pingree Grove, IL) would strikeout the last batter he faced to collect his first save this summer for the Bravehearts.
