Slow Fourth Quarter Spurns Legends

FRISCO, TX - The Texas Legends (17-15) went cold in the fourth quarter after leading by as many as 15 to drop a 102-111 contest to the Austin Spurs (17-13).

Drew Eubanks grabbed the game's first basket and the Spurs took a quick 4-0 lead. Texas responded with six unanswered and stayed on top until the six-minute mark when the Spurs bounced back with a Eubanks dunk. Moses Brown answered with a slam of his own and Texas held the edge through the buzzer. The two exchanged leads eight more times in the second, but Chad Brown had the final say of the half to give Texas a two-point boost heading into the locker room 53-51.

The Legends took their two-point advantage and ran with it in the third, reaching the largest lead of the game (+15). Dakota Mathias had a 14-point performance as Texas knocked down 50% from the field and 63% outside. With 1:44 left in the quarter, Austin pulled within six but Texas went on a 7-0 run to the buzzer to take a 13-point edge into the final minutes. The Legends' shooting went cold in the fourth in time for the Spurs to heat up. The visitors opened with a 23-3 run to jump ahead and held the Legends to 13 points in the fourth to take a 2-0 lead on the season series.

Dakota Mathias posted his first career double-double leading the Legends with 25 points and 13 rebounds to go with 5 assists and a block. Cameron Payne also grabbed a double-double with 16 points, 12 assists, 4 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. Yudai Baba hit 4-of-6 outside for 18 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 steals, and Moses Brown came off the bench for 14 points, 8 rebounds. Jaylen Hoard rounded out the double-digit scorers with a full line adding 12 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals, and a block.

Drew Eubanks powered the Spurs with 29 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 blocks. San Antonio assignee Luka Samanic added 19 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 blocks, and Quinndary Weatherspoon finished with 16 points, 5 rebounds, and 7 assists. Jeff Ledbetter added 10 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists off the bench.
