"Slight Tweak" Forces Trapp to Miss U.S. Under-21 Camp

Columbus Crew SC News Release
Sporting Director and Head Coach Gregg Berhalter explained on Monday that the decision to have midfielder Wil Trapp remain in Columbus this week - instead of joining U.S. Under-21 National Team camp - was a joint decision between Trapp, the Crew and U.S. Soccer over the weekend.
The 21-year-old midfielder picked-up a small knock in Saturday's 1-1 draw against D.C. United and on Monday, U.S. Soccer announced Trapp would not be attending this week's call-up sessions in California.
"It was a collaborative effort in the best interest of the player," said Berhalter. "I think U.S. Soccer understood his condition and they were very helpful in assisting with the position to keep him back."
In the end, following what Berhalter called a "slight tweak," to have Trapp fly cross-country and miss training with the condition wasn't the most advantageous course of action for any of the parties, including Trapp.
Berhalter was quick to point out that this likely won't be the last time the Crew gets a call for the Black & Gold Vice Captain.
"We were honored that he was part of that pool and we look forward to him being a part of it in the future as well," said Berhalter.
Continued Berhalter: "We think Wil is an excellent player and we've gotten similar feedback from Tab [Ramos] and the National Team program coaching staff. We hope that in the future he's going to be a part of that team."
