BLOOMINGTON (Ill.) - Chicago running back Jarrett Payton scored three touchdowns as the Slaughter avenged a loss earlier in the season to the Extreme. Chicago marched into Bloomington a left with a 50-43 victory in front of 4,068 at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum Saturday night.

Making his first start as a member of the Extreme, quarterback Rocky Hinds was 16-30 for 173 yards with four touchdown passes and one interception. Wide receiver John Cooper hauled in five catches for 72 yards and one touchdown.

Slaughter quarterback Randy Hutchinson was 19-28 for 194 yards with five touchdown passes and one interception. Wide receiver Gemayel Cowser caught seven passes for 52 yards and one touchdown.

After Extreme kicker, Peter Christofilakos? 28-yard field goal attempt was blocked and taken to the one-yard line by the Slaughter, Payton punched it in from one-yard out as Chicago took an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter.

On their ensuing play, Hinds found Cooper for a 30-yard touchdown pass to tie it up, 7-7. On their next drive, the Slaughter marched down the field for a six-play, 41-yard drive capped off by a Payton run from four yards out as Chicago regained the lead, 14-7.

After Slaughter defensive back, Dennison Robinson picked off a Hinds pass at the Extreme 18-yard line, kicker Chris Nendick converted a 20-yard field goal to give Chicago a 17-7 lead early in the second quarter. After another missed field goal by Christofilakos, Hutchinson found wide receiver De?Cody Fagg for a 45-yard touchdown pass as Chicago took a commanding 24-7 lead.

Despite the large deficit, Bloomington would not go quietly as on their following drive, Hinds found wide receiver Adam Kesler for a six-yard touchdown as the Extreme cut the lead to 24-13. After an interception by Extreme defensive back James Temple in the end zone, Hinds tossed a 10-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Johnny Grey. Bloomington converted their two-point attempt as the Chicago lead was now 24-21.

It did not take much time for Chicago to respond to the 14-0 run put on by the Extreme. Hutchinson threw a five-yard touchdown pass to Payton for his third touchdown with 46 seconds remaining in the half to extend their lead to 31-21. After the Extreme fumbled on their first play of the ensuing drive, Hutchinson tossed a 35-yard touchdown pass to Fagg as Chicago built its lead to 37-21.

Kesler came back and took the ensuing kick-off 55 yards for a touchdown as Bloomington cut the lead to 37-27, which was the score heading into half time.

After a scoreless third quarter, Hutchinson found wide receiver Tavares Woodley for a 23-yard touchdown with 11:45 left in the game as Chicago extended its lead to 44-27. The Extreme responded on their ensuing drive as running back Bernard Payton took it in from two yards out as Bloomington cut the lead to 44-35 with 8:09 remaining in the game.

Chicago added to its lead when Hutchinson tossed a four-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Cowser as they pushed their advantage to 50-35 with 3:23 remaining in the game. On their next drive, Hinds found wide receiver Harry Lewis from 10-yards out as the Extreme converted its two-point attempt to cut the lead to 50-43 with 1:29 left in the game.

The Extreme will host the Maryland Maniacs April 17 at U.S. Cellular Coliseum. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
