Over a Cup of Coffee

This morning I want to simply say thank you to the fan, especially those passionate enough about the sport and their teams to go the extra mile.

It's fans like those over at AIFAFans.com that make this sport great, even at those times when leagues don't seem to care about the fan. It's about those who post on the OurSports Central and other message boards who care enough to support their teams. It's about those that take hard earned money to buy tickets just to support their local favorite when the team they support does little to earn their money. It's for those fans who come out no matter how good or bad their team is performing.

It is the fans that make this sport what it is, not the leagues, not the teams. Without the fan, this sport is nothing. I've watched leagues come and go over the last ten years and for the most part the fan has been placed at the bottom of the food chain. Every league has a players of the week award, but should also include a fan of the week as the fan is every bit as important to the game as the players. Players give their all on the field, while fans give their all from the stands.

Whether you follow a team in the AIFA, CIFL, IFL, SIFL or any of the other leagues, I say thank you for all that you do to keep the sport of indoor football strong.

Yesterday's wins and losses

In the IFL, a last second goal line stand preserved the first win for the Tri-Cities Fever 1-3 over division leading Fairbanks 4-2, 44-39. Sioux Falls 5-1 had little trouble in defeating rival Sioux City 2-3, 57-23 to stay a 1/2 game up on Wichita 4-1 who beat Omaha 2-2 last night 57-47. Austin 2-2 picked up their second win by downing winless Abilene 0-5, 68-34. West Michigan 3-1 dropped from the undefeated ranks by going down to Richmond 4-1, 45-39. Chicago went to 2-3 after beating Bloomington 2-3, 50-43. West Texas 1-4 lost to San Angelo 4-1, 44-35 while Amarillo remained perfect at 4-0 by defeating Corpus Christi 2-4, 51-40.

In CIFL action last night, Marion 2-1 won a defensive battle against Chicago 0-2 by a final of 19-14, while losers of 16 straight Miami Valley 0-3 made it 17 in losing to Fort Wayne 1-1, 28-44. In the battle of the undefeateds, Cincinnati 4-0 got by Wisconsin 1-1, 48-26.

In the AIFA, Fayetteville 1-2 lost to Harrisburg 3-1, 21-49 and Reading 2-2 got by Richmond 2-2 49-46. San Jose remained perfect at 3-0 by defeating Yakima 1-2, 82-50

For the Sunday fan

The IFL has Rochester 2-2 at Maryland 0-3, Colorado 0-4 at Billings 3-1 and Green Bay 4-1 at La Crosse 0-4. In the AIFA, undefeated Baltimore 4-0 is at New Jersey 0-3.
