Corpus Christi Hammerheads News Release
Amarillo, TX - The Corpus Christi Hammerheads (2-4) dropped a heartbreaker Saturday night against the Amarillo Venom 51-40 at the Amarillo Civic Center.
Corpus Christi opened the scoring following a failed onside kick attempt to start the game quarterback Wes Cooper sneaking into the end zone on a one-yard rushing score. The Venom answered right back however with a 5 yard TD carry by Sha-Ron Edwards. The Game see-sawed back and fourth the rest of the first half resulting in the teams be tied at 33 - 33.
The second half however belonged to the Venom. After some great defensive stands, the Venom finally broke the deadlock when Julian Reese hit Alex Watson on a 27 yard touchdown pass and the Venom Never looked back. The Hammerheads were only able to find the end zone one time over the final two quarters as the Venom defense took control of the game.
The loss is the third in a row for the Hammerheads who will be looking for their first road win of 2010 next week in Abilene against the Ruff Riders. Kickoff is set for 7:05pm. The team returns home to the American Bank Center on May 8th for a rematch with Amarillo.
