Hammerheads Looking To Close Out Regular Season On A High Note

Corpus Christi Hammerheads News Release

Corpus Christi, TX - The Corpus Christi Hammerheads (6-5) close out the 2011 regular season this Saturday against the team they started the campaign against, the Abilene Ruff Riders (4-7).

The Hammerheads didn't fair well against the Ruff Riders in the season opener in Abilene back on March 19th losing 83-27. In that game, the Hammerheads turned the ball over 8 times and had no rhythm on offense. That loss and the loss the following week in Rio Grande Valley led to the dismissal of former Head Coach Stephen Fillmore and opened the door for current Head Coach Dustin Almond.

The two teams have gone in different directions since their last meeting. The Hammerheads have locked up the third seed in the 2011 playoffs while the Ruff Riders will begin making off-season plans following the game. The big difference between the two teams now is the QB position. After losing starting QB Joe Brannen, the Ruff Riders have had 4 different starters who have had limited success. Meanwhile rookie QB Anthony Andre has taken the reigns of the Hammerheads and been solid throughout the season.

"I'm a lot more comfortable now", said Andre. "Coach Almond has really helped me see the field and understand not only what I'm doing with the football, but also see what the defense is doing to try and stop me.

With their playoff position locked in, how important is this game to Corpus Christi' ""It's important", said Almond. "You want to go into the playoffs on a high note so you want a win Saturday night". Almond also added that he's sure that the "guys remember the loss back in March and want a measure of revenge".

Kickoff Saturday night is set for 7:05pm. Tickets start at just $10 and are available at all Ticketmaster outlets, Ticketmaster.com, the American Bank Center box office or by calling the Hammerheads at (361)814-PASS (7277).The game can also be heard locally on Sports Radio Corpus Christi, 1230AM beginning at 6:40pm.
