Harrisburg Stampede News Release
HARRISBURG, PA (June 9, 2011) - Despite their 2-9 overall record, which was padded with an 0-6 start, the Harrisburg Stampede still have a lot to play for when they host the Trenton Steel this Saturday at 7:30 PM at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex Equine Arena.
"My main goal was to finish 3-0 at home, and we have the opportunity to do so this Saturday versus Trenton. In this game it is crucial to win your home games and survive on the road," commented Stampede Head Coach Josh Resignalo.
When Coach Res took over the reins of the Stampede in late April the team was mired in a 0-6 start. Just a few days later they toppled the eventual Northeast Division Champions, the Erie Explosion, 41-40 on a stirring comeback, which saw them outscore Erie 25-0 in the final seven plus minutes of the game. 1-0 at home.
Two weekends later they hosted the Carolina Speed. In their most dominating game of the season the Stampede piled up 16 first downs to Carolina's eight, outgained them 217 to 134 yards and Kicker J.R. Cipra booted 23 points to take Player of the Week honors and lead Harrisburg to a resounding 59-30 win. 2-0 at home.
Now is the quest for 3-0. Resignalo noted, "To beat Trenton would give this organization the momentum needed for going into the off season." To get to 3-0 the Stampede must defeat a team, the Trenton Steel, who are heading to the playoffs in their first season of play at 7-4.
The Steel are led by quarterback E.J. Nemeth who leads the Southern Indoor Football League (SIFL) with a staggering 26 rushing touchdowns, has thrown 65 touchdown passes, and leads the SIFL with 270.7 yards passing per game.
It will be a tough challenge but Coach Res knows what his team has to do, "We know that we can beat Trenton; we just have to execute our game plan. Everyone knows that we have some good players, but we need to show that we are a good team. That is what we have preached since I took over, that we are a family and we can't do it by ourselves, and that we must come together and play for each other. This is a different organization the second half of the season, and we hope that we have shown that!"
The first 250 fans attending the Stampede's season finale will receive a team photo.
