Education Meets Fun at 14th Annual Children's Literacy Festival

HARRISBURG, PA (November 7, 2014 ) - The Harrisburg Stampede and American Literacy Corporation have teamed up to present the 14th Annual Children's Literacy Festival. The free public event will take place this Saturday, November 8, 2014 from 11a.m. to 2p.m. at the Harrisburg University of Science & Technology, located at 362 Market Street, Harrisburg PA 17101.
The 14th Annual Children's Literacy Festival is intended to encourage children to read and to make healthy life choices. Celebrity readers attending the event include Dauphin County Commissioner George Hartwick, State Representative Patty Kim, and abc27 News talents Valerie Pritchett, James Crummel, Janel Knight and Amy Kehm. The event will also feature Zumba, Kinder Dance, arts and craft activities, games and free healthy snacks. Children will also receive a complimentary book and toy! Floyd Stokes, executive director of the American Literacy Corporation and author of 13 children's books will read and hold a book signing with the children. "It's exciting to hold these events and show the kids how much fun reading can be! This is our 14th year and the partnership with the Harrisburg Stampede can only add to the fun and excitement!" remarks Stokes.
The Harrisburg Stampede is excited to help with the effort to improve children's literacy and encourages families to bring their children to visit the Stampede players who will be reading to children throughout the event. Takia Colston-Krow, VP Sales & Marketing with the Harrisburg Stampede said "This is a great opportunity for Read with the Herd to partner with the American Literacy Corporation to share the love of reading with the kids in our community. We're excited and looking forward to a great turnout on Saturday!"
