Slammers Strike Early, Beat Otters 4-2

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Joliet Slammers rode a three-run first inning to an eventual 4-2 win over the Evansville Otters Tuesday night at Bosse Field.
Dylan Hardy opened the ballgame with a leadoff home run to left field on an 0-2 count facing Otters starter Braden Scott. The Slammers would add two more in the opening inning off of back-to-back, one-out RBI doubles from Kyle Jacobsen and Jackson Dvorak. After the top of the first, the Slammers led 3-0.
Evansville responded for one in the bottom half, as Riley Krane pulled a hard-hit ground ball to second, backhanded by Patrick Causa. On Causa's errant throw, Miles Gordon would come around to score advancing from second, puting Evansville's first tally on the scoreboard.
Braxton Davidson extended the Jailbirds' lead in the top of the third with a solo shot to left off Scott, the second hit in the ballgame by Joliet. The Slammers then led 4-1.
Elijah MacNammee fired back in the bottom of inning number three, when he blasted a solo homer to left to pull the Otters within two.
Braden Scott would settle in following the rough first, allowing only two hits after the opening inning --- one of which was the Braxton Davidson home run. Scott went six innings, allowing four runs on six hits, no walks, and seven strikeouts.
Scott was relieved by Samson Abernathy to begin the top of the seventh. After a leadoff walk, Abernathy would end up pitching a 1-2-3 seventh thanks to a sparkling 6-4-3 double play.
Taylor Wright entered in the top of the eighth, throwing two perfect innings out of the pen to keep the game close. Nonetheless, Evansville could not get any offense going after the third, falling by a final score of 4-2.
Adam Zuk (2-1) earned the win, while Braden Scott (2-1) suffered the loss. Trevor Charpie earned his eighth save of the season.
Evansville will continue their six-game homestand Wednesday against the Joliet Slammers. First pitch in that game will be at 6:35 p.m.
The Evansville Otters are the 2006 and 2016 Frontier League champions.
