Washington Wild Things News Release
WASHINGTON, Pa. - Nick Ward's sacrifice bunt in the ninth led to two Jackals' throwing errors and a walk-off win for the Washington Wild Things to snap a four-game losing streak. Washington won 5-4 in the series opener and homestand opener.
The Jackals took the lead in the first inning when Todd Isaacs hit a home run off of Wild Things pitcher Daren Osby on the first pitch of the game. The Wild Things quickly made a comeback in the second inning when Andrew Czech hit a home run plating himself and Bralin Jackson, who got walked. The homer extended Czech's hit streak to 13 games, which is tied for the longest active such streak in the league with Windy City's Zach Racusin, who had two hits tonight.
During Isaacs' third at-bat, he hit his second home run of the game against Osby again. This was the tying run, bringing the game to 2-2.
In the bottom of the fifth with Cody Erickson and Ward on base, Grant Heyman hit an infield single, scoring Erickson.
With the score at 4-2, the Jackals manage to gain one more run when Riley Mihallik got two RBI off Jesus Balaguer to tie the game.
After Adrian Gomez singled to start the ninth for his first Wild Things' first, Ward placed a sacrifice bunt. The Jackals had two errors, which allowed Adrian Gomez to stay on base, take third, and home on the second error, bringing home the win.
The two teams meet again tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. Right-handed arm Spencer Hereford will start for the Jackals and be opposed by Washington's Ryan Hennen. You can get tickets for the contest at wildthingstickets.com.
