Slammers Lose Series Finale to Traverse City 8-4

Traverse City, MI - The Joliet Slammers (32-46) lost the Sunday matchup against the Beach Bums 8-4 in Traverse City (45-30) on Sunday.

Joliet fell behind, thanks to a four-run Traverse City 2nd inning and the Beach Bums never looked back. David Kubiak started the game for the Slammers and the five runs that scored against him were all unearned. He gave up 7 hits over 5 innings, striking out four and walking none. Four Joliet errors were costly in the contest. Sam Bumpers picked up three hits for TC, while Jake Rhodes, Jeff DeBlieux and Jay Austin had two hits apiece.

The Slammers tried to make a late comeback but a three-run homer from Nate Roberts in the 9th was not enough. Their other run came on a walk to Marc Flores in the 6th. Five different Slammers...Casey Fletcher, Roberts, Alfredo Rodriguez, Mike Garza and Max Casper, had two hits apiece. Joliet collected 13 total hits and stranded ten runners on the day.

Joliet returns home for a 2-Dollar Tuesday on August 18th at 7:05pm, to open a three-game series against the Florence Freedom. Wednesday the 19th features an appearance by the all-time hit king Pete Rose. He will put on a Slammers uniform to coach the bases for two innings and also sign autographs.
