Slammers Go Yard in 10-4 Win

Joliet, IL- The Slammers (33-46) defeated the Florence Freedom (36-43) behind an offensive outburst on Wednesday night.

The Slammers found the scoreboard immediately in the first with some help from Florence. 2B Carter Bell sent one to the short fence in right that RF Collins Cuthrell, the ball went off of his glove and over the wall. The play was scored E9 to make it 1-0 Slammers. RF Nate Roberts walked as did C Joe Staley. With two on 1B Anthony Nowak singled to right field that allowed Roberts to score, Nowak was thrown out at second trying to stretch his hit into a double. 2-0 Slammers after one.

Florence would score in the fourth. RF Collins Cuthrell kept the inning alive with a two out double. LF Frazier Hall singled him home cutting the lead in half.

Joliet exploded in their half of the sixth off of starter Jeremy Gooding. CF Casey Fletcher walked. Carter Bell doubled to left field putting runners at second and third. SS Alfredo Rodriguez to right that scored both runners, Rodriguez would move up to second on the throw to the plate. 3B Mike Garza followed with a single himself that plated Rodriguez. Joe Staley walked to put two on. DH Marc Flores capped off the inning with a three run jack to right center. Six runs in the inning and an 8-1 Slammer lead after five.

Dan Tobik came in relief of Spencer Medick who was nearing the century mark in pitches after five. The Freedom scored again with two outs. Collins Cuthrell and Frazier Hall walked. C Isaac Wenrich singled home Cuthrell making in an 8-2 ball game.

Slammers' hitters added more after the stretch. With Austin Delmotte on the mound for Florence, Joe Staley singled. 1B Jeremy Nowak made himself at home with a two run shot pushing the score to 10-2

The Freedom would squander a pair in the ninth. With Sam Moore in, SS Travis Weaver singled to lead off the frame. 3B Steve Carrillo followed with a base knock of his own. 2B Daniel Fraga walked to load the bases. CF Zac Mitchell showed patience with a walk that scored Weaver to make it 10-3. DH Austin Newell grounded into a double play that allowed Carrillo to score. Moore would get the final out of the inning to seal a six run victory. Spencer Medick's five innings earned him a win (1-2) Jeremy Gooding got the loss (5-4). Our Merchants and Manufacturers Bank Player of the Game was Marc Flores who went 3-for-4 with his three run homerun in the fifth.
