Joliet Slammers News Release

The Thunderbolts got on the board first with a play you don't see all that often. Brynn Martinez hit a ball between 2 diving Slammer outfielders, and it rolled all the way to wall. Martinez sprinted around the bases for an inside the park homerun, giving the Thunderbolts a 1-0 lead.

The Slammers would tie the game up in the bottom half of the 3rd inning thanks to an RBI single from London Lindley. He brought home Jimmy Roche who led off the inning with a single of his own. Lindley was then caught stealing, putting an end to the 1-out rally.

For the 2nd time in the game Brynn Martinez was a thorn in the side of the Slammers. With 2 outs and 2 runners on in the top of the 8th inning, Martinez hit a 2 RBI double to right-center field giving the Thunderbolts a 3-1 lead.

After giving up the homerun in the 1st, Keegan Long settled in for the Slammers. He didn't allow another run until the 8th inning and struck out 7 on his way. Unfortunately for Long, that 2-run double from Martinez would be the difference maker in the game. Long finished 8 innings, gave up 5 hits, and allowed 3 runs. He would be the losing pitcher.

Tyler Thornton helped lead the way for the Thunderbolts. He only gave up the 1 run over 7 innings, struck out 8 and walked 3. Thornton would be the winning pitcher.

This loss snaps the Slammers modest 2-game winning streak and drops their record to 18-31. Windy City improves their record to 22-26 with the win. The Slammers will look to even up this series on Saturday, July 6th. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.

Tonight's Merchants and Manufacturer's Bank Player of the Game is: London Lindley (2-3, 1 RBI).
