Rochester Red Wings News Release

Rochester, NY - Veteran Red Wings reliever Anthony Slama has been released by the Minnesota Twins, the Red Wings announced today. The Twins also signed right-handed reliever Cody Eppley on Monday and assigned him to Rochester. He will be active for tonight's 7:05 p.m. game against the Gwinnett Braves at Frontier Field.

Slama was released after going 0-4 with a 13.50 ERA in 14 games with the Red Wings this season. The 29-year-old entered 2013 with a career 1.99 minor league ERA -- including a 2.27 ERA with 36 saves in 123 appearances with the Wings from 2008-12. Last season, Slama posted a 1.24 ERA with a team-leading 14 saves in 31 appearances. The Orange, Calif. native was drafted in the 39th round by the Twins in 2006, however, despite his outstanding numbers, made just seven appearances for the Twins going 0-1 with a 5.14 ERA from 2010-11.

Eppley signs with the Twins after being released by the New York Yankees on June 5. The 27-year-old was on the Yankees Opening Day roster but allowed four runs in 1.2 innings over two appearances and was optioned to Scranton/WB on April 8. With the RailRiders, Eppley went 2-2 with three saves and an 8.53 ERA in 19 games. A 43rd round pick by the Rangers in 2008 out of VCU, Eppley was claimed off waivers by the Yankees last April and spent most of last season in the Yanks bullpen going 1-2 with a 3.33 ERA in 59 games. He appeared in all four ALCS games last year against Detroit and tossed 3.2 scoreless innings.
