Rochester Red Wings News Release
GAME NOTES:
-THE LEAD: Chris Colabello collected two more hits and three more RBI and Andrew Albers tossed seven strong innings as the Red Wings cruised to an 8-2 victory over the Gwinnett Braves Thursday night at Frontier Field in the series opener... Albers, who didn't pick up his first Triple-A win until his 8th start this year, has now won five consecutive decisions -- a Red Wings season-high. The southpaw, who tossed a CG-SHO in his last start against Gwinnett on Friday, set down the first 11 batters Thursday before a two-out Tyler Pastornicky single in the 4th frame. Ernesto Mejia followed with an RBI double to snap Albers' scoreless streak at 12.0 innings.
-The Wings win snapped a mini, two-game losing streak as Rochester has not lost three in a row now in a month. The Red Wings have won 11 of their last 17 games and have taken four of the first five games against Gwinnett this season.
-After hitting just one home run in 892 at-bats over the last four seasons, Doug Bernier clocked his 3rd homer of the year in his 195th AB on Thursday -- a solo shot to right field that gave the Red Wings a 2-0 lead. The RBI was his 28th of the season -- only three other times in his 12-year career has he collected more than 28 RBI in one year.
-Trevor Plouffe, playing his 3rd rehab games with the Wings, went 1-for-3 with a run, a walk and a strikeout and played all nine innings at third base. He's now 3-for-10 with a homer and three RBI over his first three rehab games with the Wings.
-Antoan Richardson went 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBI and reached base three more times to raise his OBP with Rochester to .447 in his first 29 games... Prior to his promotion, Richardson ranked 2nd in the Eastern League with a .456 OBP... He also became the first Red Wings player with 10 stolen bases this year as he swiped his 24th overall (14 with New Britain) in the second inning.
-Chris Colabello collected two more hits Thursday including a three-run double in the 4th inning that broke open a tight game. Colabello is now 7-for-12 over his last three games since being optioned back from Minnesota for the third time this season on Monday. His .366 average, .644 SLG and 1.070 OPS are all tops in the International League. In fact his .366 average is the best in all of baseball (MiLB & MLB).
