CHICAGO, December 10, 2013 - The Chicago Sky announced the launch of the 2014 "High School Team of the Year" program Tuesday. Since its inception the program has recognized dozens of Chicago area teams for displaying qualities of leadership and service to the community.
"The Sky looks forward to the "ÃËHigh School Team of the Year' program every year," explains Chicago Sky President and CEO Adam Fox. "The Chicagoland area is a strong basketball community, and we are proud to acknowledge our local student-athletes for their positive contributions on and off the court. We look forward to honoring the winning team alongside the entire Sky family this upcoming season."
Each week between January 8 and March 12, the Sky will announce a winning team. This team will be profiled on the Sky website where their successes will be shared with the community. Each "High School Team of the Week" winner will receive 15 complimentary tickets to a 2014 Sky regular season home game at Allstate Arena where they will watch the best female athletes in the world take to the court.
All teams that compete in IHSA class 1A, 2A, 3A or 4A competitions are eligible to win a weekly honor. Nominations from parents, coaches, school faculty members and players are welcome and will be gathered on the Chicago Sky website (www.chicagosky.net) throughout the 10 week program.
The 10 winning teams will qualify to be named the Sky's "High School Team of the Year." The 2014 "High School Team of the Year" winner will be decided through an online vote on the Sky's website. Voting will take place April through May. The winning team will be announced on the floor at halftime at a Chicago Sky game. The team will receive a plaque to display at their school and a team prize.
