Skyrockets top Beijing
February 4, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Minot Skyrockets News Release
San Jose, CA. Both the San Jose Skyrockets (18-5) and the Beijing Aoshen Olympians playing out of Maywood, California (11-10) started out the game slowly, but the Skyrockets were able to put together a strong second half to beat Beijing 99-80 in an ABA game at the San Jose Civic Auditorium. San Jose built a 10-point lead and kept it to end the first quarter 26-16. Poor shooting and sloppy play by both teams kept the score low.
The second quarter was a little more of the same with Beijing shooting only 36% and San Jose better at 43%. The Skyrockets managed to close out the half 54-40. Things began to change in the second half. San Jose caught fire and built a 32-point lead with 2:51 to go in the third quarter and finished with an 82-54 lead. Beijing kept trying to get back in the game but had to wait until the 4th period to mount any kind of attack.
In the fourth quarter, San Jose built another 32-point lead but Beijing wasn't able to get any closer than the final score of 99-80. Beijing finished the game shooting only 37% while San Jose shot 44%. Once again, San Jose saw a balanced scoring attack with six players in double figures. Lamar Castile led both teams with 21 points. Sun Yu, who was also selected to the ABA West All Star team led Beijing with 14 points. Fred Vinson and Wo Nan each had 13. Both teams tangle again Saturday at 530pm at the San Jose Civic Auditorium. For more information, visit www.sjskyrockets.com or www.abalive.com.
