Minot Skyrockets News Release

Minot, ND - October 26, 2007 - The Minot Skyrockets are pleased to announce the signing of 6-8 guard/forward Cory Hightower, pending league approval. Hightower played two years at Indian Hills CC before being drafted by the San Antonio Spurs in 2000.

In the summer of 2000, he participated in the Los Angeles Pro-Am Summer League for the Los Angeles Lakers. He spent the 2000-01 pre-season with the Lakers before going to the Gary Steelheads (CBA) and later joined the Harlem Globetrotters.

In 2001, he played for the Chicago Bulls in both the Southern California Pro Summer League and Rocky Mountain Summer League. He spent the pre-season with the Charlotte Hornets and went to the Gary Steelheads in October 2001. He put up 13.9 ppg and 4.1 rpg in just 11 games with the Steelheads before being traded to the Rockford Lightning (CBA) where he had 9.4 ppg and 2.3 rpg.

Hightower played for the Orlando Magic team in the 2002 Shaw's Pro Summer League in Boston. That same year he had a breakout season in the CBA. He put up 23.6 ppg, 5.2 rpg, and 3.9 apg with the Great Lakes Storm and was selected to the 2003 CBA All-Star Team. He was also a finalist in the CBA Slam Dunk Contest. In February 2003, he went to the Dominican Republic for the Santiago Regional Tournament.

Hightower has spent time in several American and overseas leagues, including the CBA, USBL, Finland League, China - CBA, and Venezuela - LPB. In 2006, he played for the USBL Northeastern Pennsylvania Breakers. In just 8 games he averaged 18.6 ppg and 18.6 rpg. This past summer he again had impressive numbers in the USBL, putting up 17.1 ppg for the Albany Patroons, and was selected to the All-USBL 2nd Team.

"I coached Cory a couple years ago in the All-Star game, and I scouted him in the USBL this year. So I am very familiar with what he brings to the table. He seems very energetic and excited to come to Minot, and we are very happy to have him," said Head Coach Chris Daleo.

Hightower will be joining the Skyrockets for veterans' camp, which is scheduled to begin on November 8th. The first home games for the 2007-08 season are scheduled for November 30th and December 1st. Season tickets are currently available by calling 839-SLAM or visiting the Skyrockets office in the lower level of the Minot Municipal Auditorium.
