Florence Y'alls News Release
FLORENCE, Ky - On Monday, the Frontier League announced Freedom catcher, Skyler Ewing, was tabbed with Frontier League Player of the Week honors after helping lead Florence to a series victory over the Southern Illinois Miners. Ewing finished the weekend hitting, .500 (7-14), with 3 big-flies and nine runs batted in. The clean-up man also added six runs scored as the Freedom took two of three from the Miners and moved into second place in the West Division with a (27-26) record.
On the season, Ewing is batting .306 with six homers and nineteen RBI in 19 games played. The home runs tie him with 2018 All-Star, Keivan Berges for the team lead, though the catcher has done it in 118 less at-bats (72). Prior to arriving in Florence, Ewing was in the Miami Marlins organization, starting the season with Advanced-A Jupiter. The Arlington, TX native was originally a sixth round draft choice of the San Francisco Giants in 2014, with whom he spent the first four seasons of his career while clubbing 43 home runs.
Ewing and the Freedom will return to action on Tuesday night when the Traverse City Beach Bums visit UC Health Stadium. First pitch of the East vs. West Division showdown will be at 6:35 p.m. The Freedom will be looking for their fifth straight series victory.
The Florence Freedom are members of the Independent Frontier League and play all home games at UC Health Stadium located at 7950 Freedom Way in Florence, KY. The Freedom can be found online at florencefreedom.com, or by phone at (859) 594-4487.
