Skyhawks win over Surf

Sussex Skyhawks News Release

AUGUSTA, N.J. - It was a real nail-biter in front of 1300 fans as both teams squared off in their second game of a three game set. The Skyhawks managed to score their first run on an error by Surf's second baseman Brad Thoma. Ron Perodin scored on the buffed play. Jorge Moreno blasted a double to center field in the fifth inning while Alex Frazier then added a little insurance with an RBI single that scored Moreno.

Kyle Ruwe had a solid outing for the Skyhawks going eight shutout innings, striking out six and allowing six hits.

The Surf added a scare in the eighth inning by loading the bases with no one out. But tremendous defense got Ruwe out of the jam with a double play and another ground out to end the inning.

But closer Matt Petrusek came in to close things out and wound up with a blown save by giving up two walks and two singles.

But before the Surf could gather any momentum, Perodin singled and stole second to lead off the Bottom of the ninth. Kevin Rios quickly answered with an RBI single to send the Skyhawks to victory.

The Skyhawks will look to sweep the series tomorrow afternoon at Skylands Park.
