Salt Lake City Stars News Release
SALT LAKE CITY - The Salt Lake City Stars were unable to overcome a strong third quarter from the Sioux Falls Skyforce, as the visitors pulled out a 103-93 victory in an otherwise neck-and-neck contest on Saturday night at Bruin Arena.
The Stars started out hot behind 10 first quarter points from Carsen Edwards. The Stars led 30-26 after one period and 51-47 at halftime.
The third quarter belonged to the Skyforce who shot 59.1 percent (13-22 FGA) from the floor while the Stars struggled on the offensive end, shooting 7-for-21, including 1-of-9 from deep. The Skyforce out scored the Stars 31-15 in the period and took a 78-66 lead into the final frame.
Jared Wilson-Frame was able to sink three shots from downtown in the fourth quarter, including a straight-away three that cut the Skyforce lead to five with three minutes left to play. The Skyforce answered back as Micah Potter set a high-screen for D.J. Stewart who knocked down a three-pointer and the Skyforce closed out the game on a 10-5 run.
Marques Bolden made his Stars debut scoring 19 points and grabbing nine rebounds, while Edwards led the Stars in scoring with 21. Wilson-Frame chipped in 17 points (5-8 3PA) for Salt Lake City.
Stewart and Mike Smith each scored 19 points to pace the Skyforce, while Dru Smith added 15 points, eight rebounds and four assists.
The Stars will host the South Bay Lakers at Bruin Arena on Friday, Jan. 14 as they look to avenge tonight's loss to the Skyforce. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Friday night will be "Princess Night presented by Nu Skin". Popular fairytale princesses will be on hand to meet, take photos and sign autographs with Stars fans.
