
Skyforce defeat Wizards in preseason matchup

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Sioux Falls Skyforce defeated the defending Central Division champion Dakota Wizards 103-99 Saturday night at Tea Area High School in the first local preseason game in franchise history. Rookie forward Gary Forbes scored a game-high 24 points while Frank Williams added 18 points and Chris Alexander pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds.
After an even first quarter, Dakota tied the score at 25-25 thirty seconds into the second. The Skyforce then went on a 14-5 run to gain a 10-point lead at 47-37 with 7:25 to play in the half and led 50-37 at halftime.
The Wizards would not challenge for the lead again until late in the fourth quarter when a lay-up by Denham Brown cut the lead to three at 99-96 with 15 seconds left in the game. It was too little too late though as Sioux Falls held on for the 103-99 victory over their border rival.
Sioux Falls opens the regular season at home on Friday night against the Iowa Energy at 7 p.m. Dakota also opens the season against the Energy at home on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
