AUSTIN - Josh Davis scored 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds as the Colorado 14ers coasted to a 120-104 win over the Austin Toros at Bowie High School. Five 14ers scored in double figures and forced 30 turnovers by the Toros.
"We played well to start but didn't respond well to their trap," said Toros head coach Quin Snyder, "I wish we would have handled it better but we're still trying to figure out our line up, and we haven't gelled yet."
The 14ers used a third quarter surge to put the game out of reach. Colorado led by as many as 25 points in the fourth quarter as the Toros finish their preseason 0-2.
"Once we got over the initial shock of playing an actual game, we settled in and played the way we wanted," 14ers head coach Bob MacKinnon said after the game, "We enforced our style and won the game."
The Toros were led in scoring by Malik Hairston who scored 20 points and 3 rebounds in the loss for Austin. Other Toros players in double figures included Marcus Williams with 16 points, Tack Minor with 15, and Ezra Williams chipped in 14.
The Toros opened the game with a 15-6 run early in the first quarter, and a Marcus Williams layup with 6:31 left in the period pushed the Toros lead to 19-9. Williams scored 11 of his 16 points in the quarter. The 14ers came back and cut their deficit to 5 following Trey Gilder's three point bucket with six seconds left in the period.
Colorado dominated the second quarter, tying the game at 28 points with a shot by Josh Davis with 9:32 remaining in the period. The 14ers outscored the Toros 31-17 shooting 47.6% from the field and held Austin to shooting 23.5%.
Building off their second quarter success, the 14ers closed out the Toros and handily won the game 120-104.
The Toros tip off their regular season on Friday, November 28th at the Austin Convention Center. Call (512)236-8333 or visit austintoros.com group and season ticket information.
