Portland Beavers News Release
PORTLAND, Ore. - Josh Wilson belted a two-run home run and pushed across the go-ahead run with an RBI single in the top of the 10th to lead the Colorado Springs Sky Sox to a 6-3 win over the Portland Beavers in extra innings Tuesday night at PGE Park.
Ryan Shealy hit his eighth homer and drove in two runs for the Sky Sox, who out-hit the Beavers 12-4 in the game.
Paul McAnulty's RBI double tied the game at 3-3 in the sixth, but the Sky Sox were workmanlike as the game moved to extra frames. Omar Quintanilla led off the inning with a double and came around to score on Wilson's single to center. Wilson then scored on a double by pinch-hitter Carlos Rivera, who scored to give the Sky Sox (20-32) a three-run cushion when Shealy singled and made it to third on a misplayed ball.
Jaime Cerda (1-3) worked two scoreless innings to get the win, while Nate Field picked up his eighth save.
Reliever Jason Anderson (2-1) was charged with all three runs in the 10th to suffer his first loss with the Beavers (28-23).
Miguel Asencio, who made three relief appearances with the Beavers in 2005, didn't allow a hit until the fourth inning and gave up three runs (1 earned) over seven innings in his second no-decision against his one-time team this season.
Shealy belted a solo home run to center off Portland starter Dewon Brazelton to lead off the second.
The Beavers broke through in the fifth. Jason Hill singled and Bobby Hill walked to bring up Brazelton, whose sac bunt attempt was misplayed into a two-run play when Asencio fired a ball out of the reach of Wilson at third base to allow the runners to score.
Wilson put the Sky Sox back on top in the sixth with a two-run home run after Quintanilla reached on a leadoff single.
Ben Johnson led off the bottom of the sixth with a single to center and came in to tie the game at 3-3 two batters later on a double to right-center by McAnulty.
The two teams resume their series Wednesday night at PGE Park. First pitch is 6:35 p.m.
NOTES: Left-handed pitcher Roger Deago arrived in Portland Tuesday and will be activated for Wednesday's start against the Sky Sox. Deago spent parts of the last two seasons with the Beavers and was 4-3 with a 4.69 ERA in 13 appearances (6 starts) with Class AA Mobile this season ... Mario Ramos will likely start for the Beavers on Thursday ... the Beavers are 2-2 in extra innings this season ... Jack Cust singled in the fourth and has reached base in his last 20 games at PGE Park.
