Published on May 30, 2006 under Pacific Coast League (PCL1) News Release
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.- Sacramento hurler Jason Windsor made his third week in the League a good one and can now add the PCL Pitcher of the Week award to his list of accolades. The River Cats' starter posted a 2-and-0 record and 0.82 ERA en route to being named the top hurler for the week ending May 28th. Meanwhile, Oklahoma RedHawks outfielder, Laynce Nix put on an impressive power-hitting display on his way to collecting PCL Batter for the Week honors. Nix slugged four home runs in five games and collected ten RBI for the RedHawks while posting a 1.143 slugging percentage.
Opposing pitchers had their hands full with Nix during the week as he scattered eight hits and racked up a .381 average for the week while scoring seven runs for the RedHawks. Seven of Laynce's eight hits went for extra-bases including two doubles and a triple to compliment his four homers. The Houston native kicked off the week with a 3-for-4 performance with a double and home run against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox on May 22, and added a two home run, five-RBI showing on the May 25th series finale. The 25 year-old is in the seventh season of his professional career that includes three stints with the RedHawks' major league affiliate, the Texas Rangers.
Jason Windsor put together two outstanding starts for the Sacramento River Cats during the week while facing off against the Iowa Cubs and Portland Beavers. He picked up wins in both appearances and allowed just a single run while tallying 12 strikeouts in 11 innings of work. The 23 year-old has seen limited time in the PCL this season, as he did not join the River Cats until May 11th, but has gotten off to a great start, posting a 4-and-0 record and a 2.01 ERA. Hailing from San Bernardino, California, Windsor was a third-round selection by the Oakland Athletics in the 2004 draft and is in his third professional season.
