Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

The Colorado Springs Sky Sox got some revenge Tuesday night beating the Reno Aces 7-2 in front of 3,118 fans at Security Service Field after the Aces opened the series with a 10-2 win on Monday night.

Sky Sox starting pitcher Alan Johnson (1-0) threw a gem tossing six shutout innings in his Triple-A debut while striking out two and walking none. Johnson was very efficient, never allowing more than four batters per inning. He finished the game with only 68 pitches thrown, 44 for strikes.

The Sky Sox took an early 1-0 lead in the third on an RBI triple by Carlos Gonzalez and then broke the game wide open against Aces starting pitcher Evan MacLane (0-1) in the fourth inning as Johnson helped his own cause with a bases loaded double that plated three runs and pushed the lead to 4-1. Johnson added another hit in the bottom of the fifth finishing the night 2-for-3 with three RBI.

MacLane would be replaced by reliever Jose Marte who loaded the bases on three straight walks in the fifth inning. Third baseman Kenny Perez took advantage by driving in a run with a sacrifice fly, and was followed by catcher Edwin Bellorin who drove in the other two base runners with a double.

With the Sox having a comfortable lead Johnson was replaced by reliever Damian Moss. Moss let the Aces see a little light by loading the bases in the seventh with two outs. Moss was taken out in favor Matt Daley who saved the inning by striking out right fielder Chris Roberson.

Steven Register would come in to finish the game out for the Sox in the top of the ninth surrendering one hit and no runs.

Game three of the four game series tomorrow will feature Sky Sox LH Franklin Morales (NR) versus RH Tony Barnette (NR) of the Aces in an 11:05 AM start.
