MEMPHIS, TN - The Memphis offense showed up early in the team's 8-3 win over New Orleans Tuesday night at AutoZone Park.
The Redbirds scored three runs in the first inning and hung four more runs on the board in the second to claim a commanding 7-1 lead after two innings. Nick Stavinoha's RBI-double tied the game at 1-1 before Allen Craig's two-run home run to right field gave the âBirds the lead for good. In the second RBI-singles from Stavinoha and Tyler Greene scored two more runs and starting pitcher Clayton Mortensen drove in a run with his first career triple. Craig finished the night with a team-high three hits to pace the Redbirds season-best 12 hits. Michael Ryan led New Orleans with three hits of his own.
Mortensen earned the win with five innings of work giving up two runs, one earned, on two hits. The right-hander walked three and struck out four to deliver the Redbirds third straight win. Zephyrs starter Ryan Tucker was pegged with the loss after giving up seven runs on six hits in 1.2 innings.
The âBirds and Z's play tomorrow night with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Mitchell Boggs will get his second start for Memphis and face New Orleans right-hander Brett Sinkbeil.
