Portland Beavers News Release

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Beavers today placed right-handed pitcher Josh Banks on the disabled list with a right ankle sprain and added right-handed pitcher Chad Gaudin (pronounced GO-dan) to the active roster.

Banks, 26, is 0-1 with a 7.20 ERA (4er, 5.0ip) and five strikeouts after one start for the Beavers this season. The right-hander took the loss in Monday night's game at Sacramento.

Gaudin, 26, signed a minor league contract with the Padres on April 12 after being released by the Chicago Cubs on April 5. Gaudin, who started his career as a 34th-round selection of Tampa Bay in the 2001 draft, split the 2008 season between Oakland and Chicago (NL), posting a combined 9-5 record, a 4.40 ERA and 71 strikeouts over 50 appearances (6 starts).

Gaudin has played all or part of the last six seasons in the major leagues with Tampa Bay (2003-04), Toronto (2005), Oakland (2006-08) and the Cubs (2008), posting a 28-25 record and a 4.45 ERA in 185 appearances (50 starts) at the big league level.

The right-hander is scheduled to start for the Beavers on Saturday when they take on the Fresno Grizzlies at PGE Park. First pitch is 7:05 p.m.

With today's moves, the Beavers' roster remains at its 24-man limit.
