Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

The offenses erupted again Thursday night, the Sky Sox scoring ten runs to top the Aces 10-5 at Security Service Field.

Reno wasted no time jumping all over Sox starter Greg Smith. Teeing off with a single, a double, and two walks, the Aces got out to a quick 3-0 advantage.

The Sky Sox roared back however, plating four runs in the first to take a 4-3 lead. Dexter Fowler reaching on a one-out walk, Matt Miller homered with two down to cut the deficit to 3-2. Mike Paulk walking in the next at-bat, he was driven in on a Chris Nelson triple, who scored on Travis Metcalf's RBI double, 4-3.

The Sky Sox poured it on in the second, scoring four more. Chris Nelson's one-out single was the big hit of the inning, driving in Matt Miller and Mike Paulk for the third and fourth runs of the frame.

There would be no relief for Reno, as the Sox tallied two more in the fourth to go up 10-3.

The Aces would score twice in the top of the fifth before the pitching finally settled down - four scoreless innings thrown for each team through the conclusion of the game.

Sox reliever Matt Reynolds finished it out in the ninth, allowing one hit to preserve the 10-5 victory. With the win, the Sky Sox improve to 25-28 while the Aces fall to 23-32.

Tomorrow night, the Sky Sox and Aces will wrap up their four game series before the Sox head to Salt Lake City. Colorado Springs will send rehabbing reliever Huston Street (NR) to the mound to take on right hander Matt Torra (3-3, 3.41). Street will pitch one inning with regularly scheduled starter Kurt Birkins (2-3, 9.38) to follow Street. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
