
Sky Sox crush I-Cubs 19-9, win series 3-1

The Colorado Springs Sky Sox crushed the Iowa Cubs 19-9 Friday night in front of the 8,648 fans at Security Service Field.
An eight run third inning erased a 4-0 deficit and propelled the Sky Sox to a season high 19 runs. The Sky Sox hit four home runs in the inning on two-run shots by Chris Nelson (4), Josh Fields (7), and Willy Taveras (4) and a solo homer by Matt Macri. The homeruns by Fields and Macri were back-to-back.
The Sox would score four more in the fourth and seventh innings and three in eighth to reach 19 runs on a wild Friday the 13th night.
Fields and Macri would finish the night 4-for-5 with four runs scored each. Fields had three RBI and moved into a tie with Charlie Blackmon for the team lead in home runs with seven. Young Jr. and Taveras would add three hits a piece and every Sox starter had at least one hit except for starting pitcher Claudio Vargas.
Reliever Edgmer Escalona (1-0, 1.23) picked up the win for the Sox tossing 1.1scoreless innings in relief of Vargas. Iowa starter Robert Coello (2-4, 8.76) took the loss for the Cubs allowing 12 runs on 11 hits in 5.0 innings of work.
With the win the Sox improve to 16-20 and are now 2-1-2 in home series this year. With the loss, Iowa falls to 15-20.
The Sox will welcome the Omaha Storm Chasers to Colorado Springs for a four game series starting tomorrow evening. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 PM MT. RHP Alan Johnson (1-2, 4.15) will take the hill for the Sox against LHP Mike Montgomery (2-1, 2.84).
