APPLETON, WI - Behind strong pitching, the Sky Carp swept a doubleheader from the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Sunday afternoon, taking game one 1-0 and game two 5-2 at Neuroscience Group Field.

The wins seal a three-game series sweep of the Timber Rattlers coming out of the All-Star Break.

In game one, Beloit needed just one first inning run to get the win. After Nasim Nunez walked, the speedster stole second base. On the next pitch, he took off for third, and Wisconsin catcher Wes Clarke threw the ball into left field, allowing Nunez to score.

It was the only run of support Dax Fulton needed, as Beloit's lefty starter cruised through a career-high 5.2 shutout innings, striking out nine T-Rats.

Fulton ran into a jam at the end of his outing, leaving the game with runners on first and second in the sixth. Tyler Mitzel came on out of the bullpen and came through, striking out Clarke to end the threat.

Mitzel stayed in for the seventh to close the game and faced the minimum to collect his first save of the year.

In game two, the Sky Carp scored early again. In the first, Davis Bradshaw drove in Nunez on an infield single. In the second, Beloit added another run on a Kyler Castillo sacrifice fly.

The Sky Carp busted it open in the third inning. After the first two batters were retired, Beloit strung together four straight two-out hits. Ynmanol Marinez drove in Bennett Hostetler with a single, setting the stage for a two-RBI triple from Dalvy Rosario to make it 5-0.

On the other side of the scorecard, Pat Monteverde picked up where Fulton left off in game one. The southpaw fired five shutout innings for Beloit while striking out six to lower his league-leading ERA to 2.51.

In the sixth inning, Wisconsin pushed for a comeback and tallied two runs against Raul Brito to cut the lead to 5-2. That's as close as the T-Rats would come, though, as Robinson Martinez worked a 1-2-3 seventh to seal the series sweep.

Beloit returns to ABC Supply Stadium to begin a six-game series with the Quad Cities River Bandits on Tuesday evening at 6:35. Tickets are available now at SkyCarp.com.
