Beloit Sky Carp News Release
BELOIT - Entering play Saturday night, the Beloit Sky Carp had been held scoreless in 25 consecutive innings.
The Sky Carp put an end to that streak in emphatic fashion, scoring three times in the first on their way to an 11-7 victory in front of a terrific crowd of 2,428 fans at ABC Supply Stadium.
The Sky Carp banged out 16 hits, including a career-best five by leadoff hitter Javier Sanoja.
Beloit took a seemingly commanding 6-1 lead with three more runs in the second inning on Sanoja's first Sky Carp home run.
But the Chiefs, who had one the previous three games in the series, bounced back with four runs in the third inning to cut the lead to 6-5. Beloit added three runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth to extend their advantage to a comfortable 11-5.
Kyle Crigger (5-0) was outstanding out of the Beloit bullpen, throwing 2 2-3 scoreless innings to record the victory. Caleb Wurster was also terrific, throwing the final two innings and not allowing a run.
Yiddi Cappe also had an outstanding night at the plate, going 3-for-5, while Joe Mack, Jake Thompson and Torin Montgomery each had two-hit nights.
The Sky Carp and Chiefs will play the finale of their six-game series Sunday at 1:05 p.m. It's Sunday Family Funday, with kids under 12 able to run the bases after the games.
The Beloit Sky Carp are the High-A Affiliate of the Miami Marlins and play their games at ABC Supply Stadium -- the heart of the Riverbend District.
