Today's Game: The Dayton Dragons (affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds) meet the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers) in the fifth game of a six-game series.

Last Game: Friday: Dayton 8, Wisconsin 6 (10 innings). In a game with multiple peaks and valleys, the Dragons pulled out an extra inning win. Dayton led 6-1 in the bottom of the eighth when heavy rain caused a delay of one hour, 49 minutes. When play resumed, Wisconsin rallied for three runs in the eighth and two in the ninth to tie the score at 6-6. Justice Thompson's RBI double keyed a two-run top of the 10th for Dayton. The Dragons finished with 14 hits, their most in a game since June 16. Jack Rogers was 3 for 5 with a double. Five Dayton players had two hits.

Current Series (August 8-13 at Wisconsin): Dayton is 2-2 in the series.

Dayton team statistics in the series: .289 batting average; 6.0 runs/game; 4 home runs; 3 stolen bases; 5.40 ERA; 3 errors.

In the Dragons two losses in the series, they have gone 2 for 21 with men in scoring position. In the two wins, they are 13 for 30 (.433).

Roster Changes: Second baseman Carlos Jorge (Reds #10 prospect re: MLB.com) and left-handed relief pitcher Jacob Heatherly (former Reds third round draft pick) have been promoted to Dayton from Daytona.

Team Notes

The Dragons are in a three-way virtual tie for first place with Fort Wayne and West Michigan in the East Division (West Michigan has played two fewer games and leads by .003). To reach the playoffs, the Dragons must win the division title in the second half (or finish second in the second half if Great Lakes wins the second half title).

The Dragons offense has been productive in recent days. Since August 4, the Dragons lead the league in runs scored (38 in 7 games), team batting average (.269), home runs (9), walks (33), OPS (.826), slugging percentage (.466), and doubles (19). The Dragons have had at least 10 hits in three straight games for the first time in 2023.

Player Notes

Jack Rogers in his last 12 games is batting .381, collecting four home runs, two triples, three doubles, 14 RBI, while slugging .833. His 1.313 OPS since July 28 is third among all Minor League players below the Triple-A level (90 teams).

Edwin Arroyo in his last 24 games (since the MLB all-star break on July 14) is hitting .322 with 14 RBI, 18 walks, 16 strikeouts, and 13 stolen bases with an OPS of .964. Arroyo since May 31 has played in 58 games and is batting .299 with six home runs, 21 stolen bases, and an .882 OPS, raising his average from .182 to .252.

Sal Stewart since joining the Dragons has appeared in four games, going 7 for 16 (.438) with one double.

Prospecting: The Dragons roster includes four players currently ranked among the Reds top-10 prospects by MLB.com, headlined by Edwin Arroyo, a shortstop ranked as the Reds #3 prospect. Arroyo, age 19, is among the 10 youngest position players to have played in the MWL this season, and the youngest among players with at least 200 at-bats. Dragons starting pitcher Chase Petty is currently ranked as the Reds #7 prospect by MLB.com. Dragons third baseman Sal Stewart is ranked as the Reds #8 prospect by MLB.com. Stewart is the second youngest position player to play in the MWL this season. Dragons second baseman Carlos Jorge is ranked as the Reds #10 prospect by MLB.com. Additionally, outfielder Austin Hendrick is ranked as the Reds #29 prospect by MLB.com.
