Beloit Sky Carp News Release

BELOIT - It took until Sunday evening, but the Beloit Sky Carp figured out how to get past the South Bend Cubs.

Beloit picked up a leadoff home run from Cody Morissette and never looked back in an 9-3 win in the series finale, snapping a five-game losing streak.

Will Banfield added a first-inning homer as the Sky Carp took a 3-0 lead. Jose Salas added a two-run single in the second to extend the advantage to 5-0, and Victor Mesa hit a two-run single in a three-run fourth that made it 8-0.

Banfield finished the game a double short of the cycle, while Morissette added three hits as well. Mesa finished with three RBI, while Jose Salas had a pair of hits and two runs batted in.

Jackson Rose held South Bend scoreless in three innings to begin the game, and Raul Brito picked up the win after allowing one run in two innings.

The crowd of 1,908 enjoyed a beautiful evening at the ballpark followed by the third consecutive fireworks show.

The Sky Carp will head to Peoria for a six-game series that will begin Monday before the two teams take Tuesday off, then resuming the series Wednesday. Beloit will be back home to take on Cedar Rapids on Tuesday, July 12.
