Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release
(OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma) - The Sugar Land Skeeters picked up their first win of their road trip with an 8-5 victory over the Oklahoma City Dodgers on Sunday night.
Colton Shaver, who began the season with the Skeeters and was assigned to them from Double A Corpus Christi on June 3, led the charge for the Skeeters offense. He lifted a two-run homer to center field in the second inning and added an RBI single in the seventh inning. The homer was his first with the Skeeters and his second combined of the season.
The Skeeters pulled away in the seventh against Dodgers right-hander Brusdar Graterol. Shaver got the three-run seventh inning started with a run-scoring single and Abraham Toro followed with a two-run single.
Toro drove in the game's first run with an RBI double in the first inning off right-hander Dennis Santana. He's driven in six runs over his last six games. Prior to Shaver's home run in the second inning, CJ Hinojosa delivered an RBI single.
Right-hander Brett Conine got the start for the Skeeters and took a no-decision. He allowed five runs (three earned) on seven hits through five innings. The Dodgers, who at one point had trailed 5-0, tied the game up in the fifth on an RBI single from Steven Souza Jr.
Brandon Bielak collected the winning decision in his second appearance with the Skeeters, striking out one through a scoreless inning of relief. Ronel Blanco notched his third save of the season.
The Skeeters and Dodgers will play a straight doubleheader with seven-inning games Monday, with the first game beginning at 4:35 p.m.
