Reno Aces News Release
First pitch from Greater Nevada Field is set for 1:05 p.m. PT
Last night vs. Sacramento:
The Aces fell to the Sacramento River Cats, 10-6, on Saturday night, ending Reno's three-game winning streak over the visiting team.
Josh VanMeter reached base safely in nine straight games with a walk in the bottom of the first. He finished the game 1-for-4 at the dish with two runs scored.
Andrew Young continued his distance hitting with a solo shot in the seventh. The Aces' infielder has roped seven of his combined 14 hits between Triple-A and the Majors over the fence.
All of the Aces position players except for the pitcher registered a hit in Saturday's game.
Jancarlos Cintron snapped a three-game hitting drought with his 3-for-4 performance at the dish. The Aces' shortstop matched his season-high with three hits in the game.
Last three vs. the River Cats:
Since June 3, the Aces are the second-best hitting team in Triple-A West with a .299 batting average while tying the Salt Lake Bees for the most runs (22).
Six Aces have registered over a .300 batting average with over 10 plate appearances through the first half of the series. Of the six, Daulton Varsho (.462), Seth Beer (.417) and Jamie Ritchie (.400) are hitting .400 or over.
The trio of Varsho, Beer and Ritchie have a combined 13-for-30 at the dish while driving in 12 RBIs and scoring nine times.
Pitching grows:
Aces starters own the second-best ERA in the Triple-A West with 5.34 in 116.2 innings of work (the third-most innings in the league).
Despite his rough outing on June 1 against Tacoma, Josh Green has emerged as the Aces' top starter, going 3-1 in four starts and boasting a 3.67 ERA and 16 strikeouts. The right-hander is also the only Aces pitcher to toss five or more innings in all of his starts this year.
The Aces' bullpen ranks second in saves with 10, coming in just 12 opportunities.
Aguilar has been stellar out of the bullpen for Reno, going 3-0 in his Triple-A West-leading 12 appearances while striking out 13 batters in 10.2 innings. His 2.53 ERA sits in second among relievers with at least 10 appearances.
Sam Moll tossed a scoreless inning against Sacramento while striking out two. In 10.1 innings of work, the Aces' left-hander has allowed just three earned runs to boast a 2.61 ERA, sitting just behind Aguilar among the same relievers with 10 outings.
Cameron Gann has not allowed a run in 10.2 innings of work since May 10.
Aces of all late-game trades:
The Aces have stormed back in the second half of the contest in eight games this season, storming back to either tie the game or take a lead.
Reno toppled Tacoma with a pair of walk-off wins on May 28 and May 30. The Aces erased a four-run deficit to down Rainiers, 8-7, on a walk-off RBI single by Drew Ellis in the top of the 10th. Two days later, a walk-off, three-run homer by Bryan Holaday completed a five-run come-from-behind victory over the Rainiers, 7-6.
The Aces are the scariest team after the sixth frame, leading all of Triple-A with a .309 batting average and 65 runs scored to go along with a second-best 20 doubles.
Reno has reclaimed its top spot in the league with a .298 batting average when trailing, while also scoring 66 runs after being down in a game.
On the flip side, the team remains atop Triple-A West when ahead in batting average (.305) and doubles (32). The Aces also rank second in runs (84) and hits (121).
Locked and loaded:
The Aces' bats have been stellar to start the 2021 campaign, registering a league-leading 275 hits, 60 doubles and 178 runs in the Triple-A West.
The team also ranks second in the division with nine triples, while outscoring their opponents, 184-158.
Three active players have recorded at least 20 base knocks, while only two, Seth Beer and Drew Ellis, have registered 10 or more extra-base hits.
Beer leads the team with 28 hits while he also ranks second in Triple-A West with 11 doubles.
Blake Lalli's squad has boasted an 18-9 record through the first 27 games, holding the best record in franchise history over that span.
